Holy Fire – Holy Sepulcher 2006

14 Apr

Those of you who are not Orthodox are probably not familiar with this miracle that occurs every year in Jerusalem on Orthodox Holy Saturday and which is mentioned in documents dating back to the fourth century: the miracle of the Holy Fire. When the Orthodox Patriarch enters the tomb of Christ in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the candles he brings with him light spontaneously. The holy fire is then passed to the pilgrims gathered in the Church, and as you can see in the video, the fire does not burn when it is touched. Often candles will light spontaneously before the Patriarch emerges from the tomb.
